Frequently Asked Questions

Once I have bought the software, how do I download it to my phone?

You need to log into your members area, and then request a course. Check this course is within your 'My Courses' area, and if so, then go to 'My Account' area and click the highlighted button 'Download Software'. You will now get an SMS message to your phone, where as soon as it is opened, the software and the course will be downloaded. Repeat this process for additional courses you download in the future.

NOTE - When the text message is received to your phone, as part of our security it can only be opened once, otherwise you will see a message saying 'Expired'. When this happens, simply download the software again from your members area

What do I get with the purchase for my phone?

You get the CaddyAid Mobile Version 2 GPS software with unlimited course downloads. In terms of the screens you get one showing your list of courses, the Hazard screen showing distances to all the key points on the hole, and finally the Green screen showing you the front, middle and back readouts to the green only. All this for only £49.99.

What are the red and green dots at the top left of the screen?

The red dots indicates that you are currently not getting a strong enough reading from the satelittes in order to give you yardages for golf. The green dot indicates you are getting a good enough signal to use the GPS device on the course.

NOTE - Your phone may show a red dot, even if you know your phone is getting a GPS readout at that time. This is because you need good GPS accuracy for golf, where as for car navigation for example accuracy of 30 yards or worse is not an issue.

Simply scroll down until the course is found and then select it from the list.

How do I change holes?

My readouts is showing yards, but I want metres. Can I change this?

Not at present, but we are launching version 2.1 which will have this facility.

My phone does not have a GPS receiver, will CaddyAid Mobile still work?

Not at present, but this is coming very soon and will be a free upgrade. In order for the new software to work you will have to purchase a Bluetooth GPS Receiver.

Is my phone compatible with CaddyAid Mobile?

Initially the software has been built around the UK’s leading three mobile phone brands; Sony Ericsson, Blackberry and Nokia. However, we are extending the phones it works with, and version 2 works with phones such as LG, Motorola, Samsung etc. As the number of phones available increase daily, we strongly suggest you either request a trial download after registration or simply buy the software and should it not work, we will provide a full immediate refund, no questions asked.

How will I know if the software works with my phone?

Simply ask us to send you the test course to your phone after registration. If it works, then great, you can buy with confidence. If not, you will know that it is not compatible immediately. In this rare case, please send an email to support@caddyaidmobile.com

We will then look at the device in an attempt to make changes to the software so it will work with your particular phone. Once changed we will contact you to re-test, and if successful, then you can buy again with confidence.

Can I upgrade the software?

Yes, if you have version 1 of the software, you can and will have to upgrade to version 2.

The course I have requested is not yet available, why is this?

We have images for most of the courses in the UK. The reason why it is not immediately available is because as of yet we have not physically converted the course. Please order the course and we will put it into a priority list for conversion ASAP.

We would hope to get the course to you inside a week, and will email you as soon as it is ready for you to download.

How accurate is the CaddyAid Mobile?

This is a difficult question to answer as your mobile will determine its accuracy based on the quality of the GPS receiver inside it.

What we can say is that the data we provide for the GPS readings is taken by a £1 million camera, and is extremely accurate. We do recommend that for serious golfers, an external GPS receiver is used, with a good signal strength, and EGNOS reception, to allow optimum readings.

Can I buy the software?

You dont actually buy the software, you are granted an annual license, renewable each year.

Can I map my own course?

Not at present, but we are exploring this feature in later software releases.

Is CaddyAid Mobile legal in competitions?

Yes it is, under the Local rule, as stipulated by the R&A.

How do I get the graphics of the course?

The graphics package is being worked on at present and is to be published in version 2.1.

Are mobile phones allowed on the golf course?

Each golf club is different. But the general rule of thumb is to keep your phone on silent mode, and just use the phone as a vehicle to get the GPS readings.

The Distance guide on the course downloaded seems to be outdated, why is this?

We have photographs of virtually every golf course in the UK. Some of our course data is a few weeks old, some a couple of years old. If the graphics are wrong, it is because we have taken it from the out of date photograph. Please make us aware of this, and we will attempt to update the course when possible.

My phone is not reading GPS distances, why is this?

This could be for a number of reasons:

  • If your phone is not GPS enabled, a Bluetooth GPS Receiver is required.
  • If you are trying to activate indoors, you may not be able to get a signal. Try activiating outdoors.
  • You may need to activated your GPS function with your network supplier.
